Bi-Fold Doors

Chigwell Window Centre Aluminium Bifold Doors

Aluminium is renowned for its light weight and high strength and due to its long life and extremely low maintenance requirements, it has become the perfect choice for home owners when selecting bi-fold doors.

Chigwell Window Centres profile supplier for bi-fold doors is Smart Systems, who have over 35 years’ experience and are the leading supplier of window and door systems in the UK.

All Smart Systems bifold doors are designed with performance, looks and efficiency in mind, with each frame incorporating a ‘thermal-break’. This effectively insulates doors and windows against heat loss, raising a home’s internal temperature and helping to reduce the risk of condensation.

Maintenance for aluminium is simple and straightforward, with just a routine ‘wipe-clean’ to keep the products looking their best. With no requirement for re-painting or re-varnishing, aluminium bi-fold doors will never fade, deteriorate or rust, even in harsh environments, such as coastal locations.

Visofold 1000 and 6000 range

Chigwell Window Supply and install two bifold door profiles. The Visofold 1000 and the even thinner profile of the new Visofold 6000.

The Visofold 1000 and 6000 bifold doors are one of the most popular bifold door systems currently supplied in the UK. They can be used in domestic applications as either an alternative to sliding doors, or to open up an entire wall as part of a conservatory; the system will make the most of a beautiful view or bring a garden into the home.

Visofold 1000 and 6000 doors offer a choice of opening configurations to suit any application. Choose to fold the panels internally or externally, place the opening at the side so the panels all fold one way, at one end, to create a single entrance door for easy access, or in the middle to give the option of a double door.

The great advantage to aluminium bi-folding doors is that they can be made wider, larger and taller than their PVCu counterparts. Other advantages of bi-folding doors in aluminium are:

The great advantage to aluminium bi-folding doors is that they can be made wider, larger and taller than their PVCu counterparts.

All Visofold profiles feature a polyamide thermal break that enhances the thermal performance of the profile and improves the overall U-Value. Profiles feature EPDM high quality gaskets and weather brushes to aid weather resistance.

Visofold complies with the requirements of Building Regulations Document L 2010. Security is assured by multi-point lock mechanisms on main opening sashes, and shoot-bolt locking on floating mullions.

Visofold doors are available in a choice of standard or non-standard colours, including metallic, wood-structure, dual colour and Smart’s unique Sensations range of textured finishes.

Architects, professional window companies and experts in doors all acknowledge that aluminium is a far superior material when it comes to bi-folding doors.

Not only does aluminium offer far greater strength than PVCu, but compare a PVCu and an aluminium bi-folding door side by side and you will instantly see how much slimmer the doors are in aluminium.

An aluminium bi-folding door will be stronger, lighter, slimmer, and give you more glass area – important to remember bearing in mind that your doors will probably be closed most of the year.

Our aluminium bi-fold doors benefit from –

Attractive, slim-line profiles offer reduced sightlines

Profiles available in either square or rounded edge options

Fabricated using mitred corners

Lock mechanism available with domestic style ‘lift-up’ handle and an adjustable, one-piece keep

Chigwell Window Centre’s bi-folding doors use a continental style handle for securing the shoot bolts on the sliding doors.  This handle is sprung loaded and lies flat on the door in a vertical position when the door is locked. They are available in black, white and chrome.  We can supply a key locking version of the handle if required.  This continental handle is only fitted on the inside of the doors.

The furniture on the Smarts bi-folding door have handles similar to those used on most double-glazed doors.  These are available in black, white and chrome.  Bi-folding traffic doors always have handles and locks to both inside and outside.

Smart systems bifold doors are secure.  The folding sliding doors only have handles on the inside which engage a shoot bolt into the top and bottom of the frame.  The traffic doors have multi point hook locking which secures all of the doors together.

Our bi-folding doors operate on four stainless steel wheels which run on two stainless steel tracks in the bottom of the frame.  The doors also

Choice of either traditional lever / lever handle on main door, or slim-line handle.

Lever / Lever Handle
A traditional lever / lever handle provides a latching facility similar to that of a standard front or back door.

A lever / lever handle should be used on main entrance doors, or doors that have high a volume of traffic/people opening and closing the door on regular basis, such as doors that will be operated by the general public in bars, restaurants, showrooms etc

Note that a lever / lever handle does not enable the doors to fold back flat upon themselves. A magnetic door stop is used to hold the doors back in the open position and protect the handle from hitting the door.

Slim-line Handle
Our slimline handles are a fold back flush handle specifically designed for bifold doors:

Slim-line exterior and interior handle ensures door leaf’s fold back flat

Shoot-bolt locking with mortice deadbolt for added security

Available in wide range of standard finishes, including white, black, chrome and satin silver.

Trickle Vents.

As are homes are becoming more and more airtight to reduce the amount of heat loss through the building fabric it is necessary to allow for ventilation in the interest of providing a means of changing the air and preventing condensation.

A Trickle Vent is a very small opening in a window to allow small amounts of ventilation and can be included in your bifold order.

Integral Blinds

Dusting blinds is a thing of the past with our electric and manual integral blinds. The magnetic control allows you to control the raising and lowering of the blind in between the glass as well as the tilting of the venetian aluminium slats, making for a sleek innovative design.

The magnets themselves are small and purposely designed to be hidden amongst the frame of the window. Or if you really want to impress the neighbours our new remote blind system is becoming increasingly popular with many of our customers. It’s the luxury and convivence of operating your blinds at the touch of button, without leaving the comfort of your own chair.

All Visofold doors have the option of either low threshold for unimpeded, easy access, or rebated thresholds that offer improved weather resistance.

The low thresholds are designed for internal doors and doors in sheltered locations. Today many home owners are choosing to use these low thresholds even in exposed locations. The advice for these clients is simple only the rebated threshold has a weather rating certificate.

All of the low thresholds installed in exterior doors run the risk of water and wind penetration in extreme weather conditions.  We will of course do our best to reduce this possibility but home owners are the people who accept that this could be a problem.

Prepare your building correctly and it is possible to install the rebated threshold so it appears flush.

Low emissivity coatings

As standard we supply glass units with a special invisible coating that reflects heat back into the room, further preventing heat loss and saving you £’s each year off your fuel bills.

The options available are vast and our sales team will assist you in selecting the glazing options most suitable for yourself and your home.

As standard we offer 28mm double glazed units with soft coat low E glass with argon gas, however, we are more than happy to offer you the widest range of glazing options currently available.

Toughened safety glass

All glass in our doors incorporate toughened safety glass to British Kitemark standards making it very unlikely to break but in the unlikely event is does it will not produce dangerous shards of glass.

Argon gas filled

Our glass units have been filled with a special inert gas, Argon, which has been proven to significantly reduce heat loss from the room when compared to more common air-filled units.

Solar control

Bi-fold doors often incorporate a large area of glass. When conventional glazing is exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods, rooms can become uncomfortably hot. Treated with a special coating, solar control glass reflects some of this energy, reducing excessive heat entering the premises and minimising glare. The lower the glass solar factor (g-value), the more heat is reflected, reducing the need for blinds and cooling systems. Our Cool-Lite glazing, for instance, cuts heat transmission by up to 62%.

Warm edge spacer technology

Chigwell Window Centre Super Spacer technology as standard which further helps to reduce heat loss from your room.  Super Spacer is 950 times less conductive than aluminium which is commonly used in cheaper double-glazed units.

U-Value choices

U-values indicate the insulation capabilities of buildings. Learn more about U-values and the properties of glazed doors and windows in thermal efficiency.
