As double-glazing experts, we are frequently asked if these stunning contemporary doors let chilly breezes in and if they are as thermally efficient as other patio doors?
Dedicated to providing Essex and London homes with the most thermally efficient doors with the lowest U-values around, today we are here to reveal some surprising facts about the energy-efficiency of aluminium bifold doors!
The most used measurement of a window or doors’ thermal efficiency in the UK is a U-value. Measuring an object’s ability to retain heat, the lower the value the more thermally efficient it is. Due to the development in technology and manufacturing techniques U-values have become significantly lower and today Building Regulations require windows and doors to have a U-value of 1.6W/m2K, whereas in the early 2000s the U-value requirement was 3.1W/m2K.
Our aluminium bifold doors have outstanding levels of thermal performance, achieving U-values of 1.5W/m2K. Due to the polyamide thermal breaks, high-quality gaskets, and weather brushes, they easily exceed high standards for energy efficient double glazing performance.
The bi-folds minimalistic slim frames are what make these doors so popular, which is why aluminium is the preferred choice of material. But, considering aluminium is a good conductor of heat, you would think that you would lose a lot of precious warmth through the frame of a bifold door. However, thanks to thermal break technology, the frames are incredibly thermally efficient.
The thermal break features a reinforced polyamide bar that is positioned between the inside and outside of the aluminium profile, creating an insulated barrier that effectively reduces temperature transfer.
Here at Chigwell Window Centre, we utilise rubber door gaskets that tightly seal gaps around the door perimeters. Sealing the gaps along the door frame significantly reduces the level of noise, draughts, and moisture. At the bottom of our bifold doors, we also fit a weather brush, which also contributes to minimising dust and draughts. With this combination, we are confident that you will always feel cosy and warm, no matter what the British weather is doing outside!
As you can see, bifold doors are just as thermally efficient as other patio door options, so you will never have to compromise thermal performance for style and aesthetic appeal! Although these are not the only benefits, our stunning bifold doors come in an array of colours, configurations, and are amazingly low maintenance too. From traditional tones such as Chartwell Green to more modern colours such as Anthracite Grey, we can create a bifold door to suit the charming or contemporary character of your South East home.
